Our future take overs deserves the best.NATIONAL President of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr. Nasir Issa-Fagee, has said that the Nigerian universities will not continue to churn out unemployable graduates because of lack of training facilities in the institutions. The ASUU President, who spoke to Saturday Vanguard in Abuja, said that though the strike affected both parents and students, there was the needfor sacrifice by all the stakeholders in order to ensure that Nigeria graduates competed with their peers in other parts of the world. education He noted that the agreement which the union entered into with the federal government in 2009 was due for review in June 20th, 2012, regretting that many years after the agreement it had not been substantially implemented. Declaring the indefinite strike as total, the ASUU President said that though the strike had affected academic calendar, the universities cannot continue in the old way of doing things that was not beneficial to graduates after their long years in school. He said, “The academic calendar had already been affected. For the fact that students were graduating they do not even perform well when they get into the labour market. “I don’t really know what is our priority, is it that we just continue churning out graduates with certificate who may not perform because they have notbeen trained adequately because of lack of training facilities, research, laboratories, workshops and adequately equipped libraries. “ This is an agreement that was signed in 2009 and it supposed to have been reviewed in 20th June 12 last year, I hope we are now in July, 2013 that is one year after, we have not substantially implemented that agreement talk less of commencing the process of review. “So I think that is the key issue. If government is serious, it would have substantially implemented the agreement before June 20 and commence the process of review of that agreement.”

Since the release of the 2013 PPT Jamb result, many a students have been making noise over low scores been awarded to them.
Its kinda weird that since the news of Jamb talking about remarking of students scripts has been all over, some Jambites are very eager to go for a script remark.
If you'll go for a remark here are the steps and procedure for a successful script remark.

1. You should be in ABUJA. Since the Jamb Office in Abuja is the Headquarters for the board, which means all scripts nationwide are usually been sent there for marking. Hence it’s only in the Abuja Headquarters that your script can be accessed. So you have to get to the JAMB headquarters.

2. You will need to make a payment of about N10,000 to apply for remarking and a receipt will be issued to you so this confirms the payment made been official.

3. Your script will be searched, pulled out and marked in your presence.
Once your script is remarked, here are the 2 scenarios that can occur;

1. JAMB is correct about the score given; If this is the case, then you go home and either use the score you had or wait for the next JAMB. There will be NO REFUND.

2. YOU are correct about the score given; In this case, JAMB will officially apologize for the error, give you your actual marks obtained and according to Prof Dibu Ojerinde on Weekend file interview of 18th May, give you up to N100,000 for compensation.
This procedure officially starts as from 3rd June.
Please share this post with your friends. Thanks

Johnson Olawale Ikudayisi and Temitope Orebe are student leaders from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. When they set out to their home state, Ekiti to sort things out concerningtheir colleagues’ bursary and scholarship scheme, they had no idea that they would be involved in an accident that would nearly claim their lives. Johnson, popularly called ‘Ekiti’ is always interested in anything thatconcerns his state and had, in the past, held many positions in the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union, FESSU, and was two term SRC members in the OAU Students’Representatives Council. The 500level Dentistry student is the chairman of FESSU electoral committee. Orebe, on the other hand, a 400 level law student, is the number oneEkiti State studenton OAU campus. Three weeks into the new session, they duo embarked on a journey to Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti Statecapital to meet officials of the State Scholarship Board and the State Governor. They had no premonition of the accident. Uponthe successful meeting with their hosts, they boarded a commercial bus at Ado enroute Ife. Twenty-minutes into the journey, exactly at Igede-Ekiti, their bus somersaulted and ran into an electric pole; it fell on the bus. Narrating the incident, Ikudayaisi said he was typing a message on hisphone when “we heard a loud sound and that was the end. A power line fell on the bus and we were not electrocuted. I shouted blood of Jesus. We were 15 in the bus. How we escaped is still a mystery to us!We couldn’t fathom if it was technical or over speeding.” He noted that he was in shock before Orebe organized for a cab to take them to the nearest hospital –Ekiti State General Hospital at Iyin (Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government). “We were initially given first aid treatment.” He said that as at the time they leftthe scene of the incident and the hospital, some passengers were in coma and they left for Ife that same night. On the lesson he learnt, Ekiti said that he will move closer to God nowthat he has been saved. He added that he now know that a supreme being that controls the affairs of the universe exists. He advised the officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission to rid the roads of some bad buses who are not road worthy. “it puts the lives of the innocent Nigerian citizens in danger. He urged government, at all levels, to repair and construct old and new roads respectively. The drivers, he advised, should be made to undergo some specific trainings before they should be given driving license and periodic training for their staffs.

Another student who said he wrote his at the Sultan Maccido Qu’anic Institute said, majority of them who wrote at the centre were unable to dothe biometric thump because the machine was bad. According to him, whilethese happened, they were asked to write down their names and go inside for the exams with the assurance that it would be taken care of.
Speaking in tears, Zaharadeen Abubakar, Manir Bala, Adebebe Peter and many others who gathered in their cluster said, they were over 1000 that wrote the exams in Unity Comprehensive College, Sokoto but none of their result was released.
When asked whether there was any malpractice in the centre, Adebede Peters said, nobody cheated adding that, it was the exams body that have cheated them in this case hence after paying for JAMB form they asked them to go inside and write hence the biometric data capturing machine was faulty. “They promised to capture us after the exams but they never did and now we can’t see our results”.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. The board, however, withheld 12,110 results for possible disciplinary action. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, announced this at a news conference on the release of the results in Bwari, FCT, on Friday 3/5/2013. The registrar said after thorough processing of answer scripts of the candidates who sat for the examination, the board discovered some forms of malpractice perpetuated during the conduct of the examination. “However, the results of 68,309 candidates from various centres are undergoing further screening to ascertain the culpability of 12,110 candidates’ results. “ A total of 1,629,102 candidates applied to sit for the Paper Pencil Test (PPT), while 15,008 candidates applied for the Dual Based Test, bringing the number of candidates to 1,644,110. “The general performance of candidates in this year’s examination shows remarkable improvement compared with last year. “Ten candidates scored 300 marks and above, while 127,017 candidates scored between 1-159 marks. “About 40,692 candidates’ results were invalid due to either multiple shading or no shading at all. After processing all the results, the board also discovered that about 47,974 candidates were absent. “ The registrar assured the candidates that their results could be accessed on the JAMB Website: Myjambresult.com using their registration numbers. He said about 40 centres would be screened to ascertain their culpability and warned the public against Internet fraudsters. “Information reaching JAMB shows Internet fraudsters are already telling candidates that their results could be upgraded in one form or the other. “ This is pure deceit, the public and candidates are hereby advised to disregard these fraudsters since they do not have access to our data. “Let me once again state that candidates are allowed to change their choices of institutions and courses once only, this change has to be effected within two weeks from today. “ Ojerinde said the Computer Based Test (CBT) is scheduled to take place from May 18 to June 1 and appealed to candidates to reprint their e- registration slips afresh to further ascertain their CBT centres.
